Language Therapy

Language disorders can be expressive, receptive, or a mix of both. Common signs of a language disorder are when children have difficulty with:
- Word order
- Telling stories in a way that makes sense
- Remembering words
- Pronouns and past tense
- Learning new vocabulary
- Learning the words to songs and nursery rhymes
- Following Directions
- Paying attention when others are speaking
- Speaking clearly (speech sound disorders can occur with language disorders)
- Learning in school
Children with language disorders and/or learning disabilities often have problems with processing language. This means they have trouble recognizing and remembering the structure of language: the sounds, words, and grammar we use when speaking. When treating your child I will assess how well they process language, so I can create the best therapy plan for them. In addition to therapy, I’ll show you ways they can continue to learn at home.
